Genre/Medium: Experimental Sculpture

This was the final project for a digital modeling and manufacturing class. I created an estimate model of Psyche and cut that model out of a solid cube. To physically create the object I sliced the model into about 50 flat layers and lasercut the shapes out of acrylic. After that I glued the layers together into 3 chunks and painted the inside volume of the model so that from the outside it appears to contain a floating solid object. I then glued the sections together and polished the outside to create a negative space floating model of Psyche.
