I am fascinated with nomenclature, i.e. the way we name things. There are very specific rules for each kind of feature on every planetary body. For example, craters on Venus are named for women, and on Mercury for artists and musicians. The Psyche team is starting to think about what scheme we’re going to use for Psyche’s craters, and this was one of the ideas (facetiously) thrown out there, just call them all “Psyche” – what could go wrong? I call this piece “Nomenclature Nightmare”. Can you imagine the paper about the features of Psyche (the crater) on Psyche (the asteroid) as imaged by Psyche (the spacecraft)?
