This is a mixed-media work, comprised of paper, wood, metal, and stone. The work is a representation of the NASA/JPL-Caltech/ASU illustration of the spacecraft’s approach to 16 Psyche.
The stone used to depict Psyche in my piece comes from a collection of stones that my grandmother gathered in her travels around the U.S. which were recently gifted to me. I chose this stone because its shape generally matched the asteroid’s shape in the illustration, along with the composition of the stone exhibiting diatinct gold/metallic tones. I added the cratered pits to better match the illustration. Who knows? Perhaps this stone originated from an asteroid and caught my grandmother’s eye eons after it landed here in Earth!
