PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Our team has been tasked with creating a WebXR immersive web experience that does this historic mission justice. The purpose of the WebXR software is to educate the public about the Psyche mission through an interactive, mobile touch screen-based virtual experience. A large-scale 3D-printed model of the asteroid will be made and shared with NASA’s Museum & Informal Education Alliance for use in museums and/or classrooms. By interacting with this 3D model via scanning QR codes, users are able to experience elements of the Psyche mission in a virtual web-browser (WebXR) experience, while enjoying the museum environment.

This work was created in partial fulfillment of Penn State Behrend Capstone Course “SWENG 480”. The work is a result of the Psyche Student Collaborations component of NASA’s Psyche Mission (https://psyche.asu.edu). “Psyche: A Journey to a Metal World” [Contract number NNM16AA09C] is part of the NASA Discovery Program mission to solar system targets.
