About the work: For this piece I used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create colorful depictions of the Psyche asteroid and spacecraft based off renderings done by Peter Rubin. The poster designs are stacked layers of single-color line art. I highlighted the Psyche name and logo in the negative space, as they are the only places on the poster not completely colored. Inspired by early 1900s offset lithography works, I then printed each color layer one by one on transparent film and stacked all 10 pages on top of eachother. The translucency allows for every layer to be seen and culminate to a final image. The layers also give the impression that the spacecraft in the foreground is traveling towards the asteroid on the horizon. Practically, with this piece I wanted to experiment with my transparent film and a new design style. Allegorically, I wanted to represent the many, many people behind this mission and how all of their work has to come together to achieve success. Any layer seen by itself does not make sense, only when viewed all together does the final image reveal.
